Researchers at the Moffitt Cancer Center & University of South Florida, Tampa studied responses of over 400 patients diagnosed with cancer about starting chemotherapy, comparing the effects of standard psychosocial care, a professionally administered form of stress management (including breathing exercises, relaxation + imagery and guided meditation), or a patient self-administered form of the same stress management training, using video, audio and printed guidance to relieve stress.

Compared with patients who received usual care only, patients receiving the self-administered intervention reported significantly better physical functioning, greater vitality, fewer role limitations because of emotional problems, and better mental health. In contrast, patients who received the professionally administered intervention fared no better in terms of quality of life than patients receiving usual care only.

The study concludes that self-administered stress management training has the potential to greatly improve patient access to psychosocial intervention during chemotherapy treatment.

My mom likes music very much and she relaxes by listening to some instrumental pieces. Because of this, I’m actually planning to give her an iPod touch as a Christmas present. While searching and browsing for ipod touch reviews, I accidentally clicked a web advertisement and it took me to a health forum. I was not really interested to read the discussions in this forum but after reading some interesting topics, I decided to create an account, join in the discussion and share my opinion.

There were like just fifty active members in the boards when I joined but there was a continuous exchange of ideas and views. I wasted like two hours of my time just for interacting with people who have health concerns and people who are trying to help and answer other people’s questions. I think I opened five new topics there and replied twenty times. I don’t know if when I will find some time to join the discussions again but I certainly enjoyed my stay there. Well, I still manage to find and read reviews about iPod touch after joining the boards in that health forum.

Insurance has been one of the most important things to have for your car, home, other assists and even your health. Having a health insurance will keep you free from worries that you might not have enough money to pay for medical expenses in the future. You no longer have to apply for cash loans or borrow money from your friends because the health insurance company will take care of every that needs to be paid both for hospital accommodation and for medicines.

The amount of health insurance premium is calculated through factors like current health conditions of beneficiaries. One can apply for health insurance for himself and his family personally or he can also get health insurance through his job. In the United States, employers are required to contribute a share for the health insurance of their employees. The other part of this insurance is deducted from the salary of the employee and the employer remits both contributions to the health insurance company.

Aunt’s Health Condition

Aunt Emily is currently in Australian and doing some Nanny Jobs Melbourne there. A news recently came to me that she has to go home here to us because she cannot work there anymore. She is complaining that her head always aches and that she often feels dizzy. My aunt is not capable of bearing a child so she couldn’t be pregnant. Her employer is concerned and she might have to home with us until she becomes well again. This is both a sad and exciting news for us; sad because of her condition but exciting because we’ll see her again.

I will personally take care of my aunt until she becomes well because I owe her a lot. In fact, I owe her even my life. I was hospitalized for one week when I was in college and she was the only one that took care for me. My parents were busy working and didn’t have time for me then. In return to the good deed that she did to me, it’s my time to take care of her. I will also shoulder a part of her hospitalization and other medical expenses.

Maintaining fitness can begin with yoga too. Once habitual of this, you can go on to fitness equipment. Fitness is about stopping smoking and taking care of your body. Fitness means using hearing aids and lenses should you need them.

Emotions and Recovery

It is believed and there are scientific proofs that a person’s emotion has effects on the speed of his recovery. A person receiving a new Nokia N82 celphone, which is a celphone that he saw at Test freaks and the one he always wanted, for her birthday could increase the speed of an ill person. A bad news on the other hand could slow down his recovery or even make it worse. You may not hear a doctor directly telling you this but I myself, have proven such theory.

There are some Homes for the Aged that uses pets to help their patients recover or at least feel better with their life. Old people will think that there’s no longer any use in being in this world because of their age and limitation. With the use of pets, they will feel that there’s still something that needs them here and there’s a need for them to stay alive and fighting. However, you should remember that doing such therapies are not enough for a person to recover or heal. You should also not forget to follow your doctor’s advice.

In la fitness has often been confused with weight loss. This is why people over there are more aware of pilates and yoga than nutrition and the vitamin shoppe.

Good Health Reasons for Sex

General Health No Comments »

I found an interesting article entitled “20 Good Healthy Reasons Why Should We Have Sex” and I would like to share them with you.

1. Sex is beneficial for both the heart and the blood circulation, especially in the brain. While having sex, the heart rate goes from 70 beats per minute to 150, a good training for the heart. Having sex thrice a week decreases the risk of heart attack by 50 %. Also during the sex intercourses, the breath is deeper, meaning a better oxygenation.

2. The mental and emotional health balance is clearly tuned by sex. People who are involuntarily celibate or abstinent and often exhibit depressive feelings (like anger, frustration, self-doubt, paranoia and even depression) are driven into this by “missed opportunities”, due to living without having sex.

3. Sex eliminates stress. You know the feeling of total relaxation and calm following a sexual intercourse. A subsequent profound calming sleep follows, with great effect in combating the stress, and persons with a regular sex life sleep better and feel better the next day.

4. Sex means softer skin. While having sex, a woman’s body doubles the estrogen level, and this makes her hair shine while the skin becomes softer.

5. Long term researches showed that regular basis sex increases the humans’ lifespan. For the same age and health, those who had orgasms more frequently had half the death rate of men who did not have such frequent orgasms. This could be due to the plummeting stress hormones, reaction that installs after we have sex. Frequent orgasms (about 100 per year) have been linked to an increase of 3-8 years in a person’s lifespan and a decrease of death risk of 50%.

6. Sweating while having sex cleanse the skin pores, making the skin brighter and decreasing the risk of developing dermatitis.

7. Sex can keep you fit, burning extra-pounds. Quickies of 20 minutes weekly mean 7 500 calories annually, that’s as much as you consume on 120 km (745 mi) of jogging. A sex session can burn about 200 calories. This is like running 15 minutes on a treadmill!

8. Sex strengthen muscles. So much pushes and flexions… It depends on your stunts in bed, of course, but it’s clearly a lot more fun than running for miles. Bed fitness sessions clearly improve muscles of your pelvis, thighs, buttocks, abdomen, chest and arms.

9. The more active your sex life is, the more attractive for the opposite sex you are. High sexual activity makes the body release more pheromones, chemicals that attract the opposite sex, but also to display a security given by experience.

10. Sex improves senses, at least the smell. Following the orgasm, a rise of the hormone prolactin makes the brain’s stem cells form new neurons in the olfactory bulb, boosting a person’s olfactory abilities.

11.Sex is also a pain reliever, ten times more effective than Valium: immediately before orgasm, levels of the hormone oxytocin rise by five times, determining a huge release of endorphins. These chemicals calm pain, from a minor headache to arthritis or migraines, and with no secondary effects. Migraines also disappear because the pressure in the brain’s blood vessels is lowered while we have sex. So now we see that actually, a woman’s headache is rather a good reason for having sex, not against it.

Sex also stimulates the release of estrogen, decreasing the PSM pains.

12. Kissing stimulates salivation, which cleanses food left between the teeth and lowers the acidity in the mouth, the main cause of the tooth decay and bad breath.

13. Sex fights off allergies. A good sex session can be a good remedy against stiff nose, being a natural antihistaminic that helps combating asthma and high fever.

14. Regular sex balances the ratio good cholesterol: bad cholesterol.

15. Sex balances sex hormones: estrogen protects a woman’s heart but on the long term, it can be efficient also against Alzheimer’s disease and osteoporosis while testosterone spurs the growth of the bones and muscles.

16. The sexual activity means less colds, flu and infections. 1-2 intercourses weekly means 30 % higher levels of the antibody immunoglobulin A, that spurs the immune system.

17. Sex means a better control of the bladder, as pelvis muscles controlling the urine flow are stronger.

18. After orgasm, especially in the evening, we get sleepy. Sex increases sleep quality. Following an orgasm, the body of both males or females becomes completely relaxed, so they may have a good deep sleep.

19. Most pregnant women stop having sex a few weeks before giving birth, as there is a widespread idea that having sex late in pregnancy could trigger labor. But studies shows this is not true. Prostaglandin is released in huge amounts by the woman’s body as it triggers labor. Also, orgasm can induce uterine contractions. Still, there is no scientific proof that sexual intercourse close to the end of pregnancy starts the labor.

20.Sex fights cancer! Various researches have shown that a high ejaculation frequency and sexual activity are linked to a lower risk of prostate cancer later in life. A study found out that men who ejaculated 13 to 20 times monthly presented a 14% lower risk of prostate cancer than men who ejaculated on average, between 4 and 7 times monthly for most of their adult life. Those ejaculating over 21 times a month presented a 33% decreased risk of developing prostate cancer than the baseline group.
